  • I would like any Nobel mind to answer my query: Q: Androgen receptor is crucial to mammalian reproduction, more so because it is unisex and thus not expressed from the Y-chromosome. This receptor on which depends the survival of mammals is faced with a critical situation as of now. The androgen receptor gene itself is prone to maximum mutations of all the known receptors! The reason for this susceptibility is not evident. Was this receptor this susceptible to mutations at the outset or it is becoming mutation prone day by day? And if so, do the environmental chemicals like oestrogens, which enter our systems in some form or the other, responsible for causing epigenetic changes (methylation status) in the gene and increasing its susceptibility to mutations bringing us closer to extinction?
